Consumer Alert
  • DO NOT sign over the deed to your home in an effort to “save” your home from foreclosure.
  • DO NOT ‘sell’ your home to a foreclosure rescuer in an effort to “save” your home from foreclosure unless it is a legitimate purchase and you are removed from any obligation to repay the loan.
  • BEWARE of lease back options unless the buyer is legitimately buying your property and removing your obligation to repay the loan and wishes to lease the property back to you at a fair market value that you can afford.
  • BEWARE of counseling agencies that are subsidized by the lenders. Always ask a counseling agency if they are paid in any way by lenders. They may not be working in your best interest.
  • BEWARE of bogus calls or solicitations by people representing themselves as your lender.
  • BEWARE of people who ask you to pay your monthly mortgage payment directly to them instead of your lender.
  • BEWARE of attorneys who charge fees based on savings that could cost you hundreds of dollars a month for the life of the loan.
  • BEWARE of loans being offered to help you make up your delinquent payments and be sure you are not inadvertently giving title to your home in exchange for the loan.
  • BE SURE to get all agreements in writing and save the documents.
